Good news first
We've brought back pools left green by previous owners, other pool companies, and long vacations. With the right steps, almost any green pool can be clear and blue again, and usually without draining it.
The recovery process
Every pool is a little different, but a successful recovery follows the same basic steps.
- Test the water to understand chlorine, pH, and stabilizer levels
- Remove leaves and large debris
- Get the pump and filter running well, since filtration does the heavy lifting
- Brush walls and floor to break up algae
- Shock the pool to the level needed to kill the algae
- Run the filter continuously and clean it often as it catches dead algae
- Vacuum settled debris and balance the water
How long does it take?
A lightly green pool can turn around in a day or two. A deep green or black-bottom pool may take several visits over a week or more. Water chemistry, especially high stabilizer levels, and filter condition make the biggest difference.
Keep it blue
Once the pool is clear, steady weekly care keeps algae from coming back. That's the easy part, and it's exactly what our weekly service is built for.
